More Than Words Book Launch 2019: ONE

21 Oct 2019

On 14 October 2019, Monday, TCTF launched our sixth edition of the More Than Words book: “ONE” at the newly renovated Methodist Girls’ School Puan Sri Helene Tan Library. In attendance, there were over 160 elderly, children and guests from TCTF-supported charities namely, Hougang Sheng Hong Student Care, Life Student Care – Parkview, PPIS Student Care (Bedok), PPIS Student Care (Jurong), St. John’s Home for Elderly Persons and St Luke’s Eldercare.

For the first time in our programme, we have invited the elderly to join the content creation of the book. The launch was curated to reflect interconnection between different generations of the children, youth and elderly, and how we are all connected to one another in more ways than we can imagine. Children charities were empowered to befriend the elderly, sparking laughter in the air through – colouring activity, animal sticker tattoos pasting, cute animal finger puppets and an interactive photography exhibition booth. Both PPIS centres delighted the guests with dance performances, imaginatively choreographed with exercises, so the elderly can have fun while working out. There were also veteran storytellers, Sheila Wee and Wong Swee Yean, who surprised the crowd with imaginative twists through their stories in English and Chinese, inspired by the story characters written by the MTW 2019 children contributors. They were facilitated by our youth volunteers whom some were previous interns and scholars from the foundation. Each children and elderly were also gifted a copy of the More Than Words 2019 Book and also preloved books by our partner, National Library Board.

In line with the foundation’s theme of connectedness, our humble event had created an opportunity of a multi-generation gathering, connecting people together. Excerpts of More Than Words 2019 Book “ONE” can be found HERE.
